Inclusion in this list required annual revenue of more than $2 billion and status as a privately held company. Amway’s revenue in the previous fiscal year reached $8.1 billion, putting it above household names like Staples and Chick-fil-A. 

In late 2023, Amway announced a new corporate strategy that is expected to take advantage of the unlimited growth potential found in China and help the company continue to expand its global footprint and market share.

The DSA sees this as important legislation given that the US Department of Labor is currently finalizing a rule on independent contractor status under the FLSA, which could result in confusion regarding direct sellers. 

“The independent contractor status of direct sellers has been vital to the business model for decades,” said Joseph N. In an effort coordinated by the Granite Education Foundation, 4Life volunteers assembled meal kits that will provide food to students in a local school district who might otherwise not have enough to eat over the weekend while they are not in school.

This proposed rule would prohibit the sale of fake consumer testimonials, review hijacking, purchasing positive or negative reviews, company-controlled review websites, the sale of fake social media markers like views or followers, and illegally preventing negative reviews through threats or intimidation. 

“Our proposed rule on fake reviews shows that we’re using all available means to attack deceptive advertising in the digital age,” said Samuel Levine, FTC Director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection. “The rule would trigger civil penalties for violators and should help level the playing field for honest companies.”
