Ep 29: Learning to Focus on What Matters
In today’s episode, host Wayne Moorehead is joined by Kevin Guest, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of USANA.
USANA celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and in that time has expanded its offerings to include nutritional supplements, skincare products, healthy living products and more. The quest to support wellness has resonated both inside and outside the company; in April 2022, it ranked No. 14 on the 2022 DSN Global 100 list with $1.9 billion in sales.
Kevin’s story is a fascinating one starting early on by being recruited by founder Myron Wentz to create marketing materials in the company’s very early days. That led to an unexpected union that has seen Kevin grow and evolve within the company wearing a number of hats through the years, including executive vice president of marketing, chief marketing officer, president and co-CEO.
Kevin and Wayne talk about some of the key elements to USANA’s growth and why choosing slow growth over rapid success has worked so well for the company.
Kevin also talks about the importance of core values and how they affect the company culture, and he looks at recognizing the difference between the customer’s experience and the distributor’s experience—and why it matters. Finally, Kevin and Wayne talk about what they think companies in the channel are doing right and what they can do better.
